Emmanuel - God With Us
Last weekend I got a chance to see one of the latest release Malayalam movie –Emmanuel. I am sure many of you might have already seen this movie & few would have liked it. I really loved this movie , not because the name of the movie was ‘Emmanuel’ but because the lead character in the movie (Played by Mamooty) portrayed a real EMMANUEL – God with us.
The thoughts below may not be a review of the movie (Sorry, I haven’t made any agreements with Lal Jose ), but a few things that I would like to pick up from the movie :
- Emmanuel – The character played by mamooty , is a person who has got a blind trust for everyone. Even at the time of worst adversities he trusts people around him. TRUST is a value he holds high in life and this has paid him his rewards. Isn’t this something our EMMANUEL – Jesus teaches us – To have blind faith in Lord, our God. Whatever be your difficulties in your life, we need to have TRUST in God.
- Emmanuel – Always stood by the side of people in their troubles. He offered helping hands to many. Even much before someone comes shares their sorrows with Emmanuel; he was able to figure out their pain. He reached out to them. When he was running short of resources to help others, he took the support of people around him. As followers of Emmanuel – Jesus, how often do we reach out to people in pain and agony?
- Emmanuel knew only one language – The language of love. Though there were ups and downs in his life, he always remained the same yesterday& today. This was possible because of LOVE. Only LOVE can remain constant. Though the role that Emmanuel does varies (Printing Press Employee, Sales Agent, Father, Husband, Friend), his Un Conditional LOVE remained constant across these roles. Our Emmanuel – Lord Jesus also demonstrated the same love. His love was same for Sinners, Tax Collectors, and Fishermen etc. Are we able to love everyone around us in a similar way-unconditional love?
- Emmanuel, in most part of the movie plays the role of an Insurance sales agent. He was actually not selling policies, but selling LOVE. Our Emmanuel – Jesus was also a salesman. He came to sell LOVE. When does someone purchase an item? Of course, I purchase when I am in need. Our Emmanuel sold his love on cross, and we purchased it. But HIS sales are complete only when we pay the money for our purchase. Isn’t he still running behind us asking for his Money? How do we pay back – Here is the solution- John 15 :12- This is my commandment, As I have loved you, so shall you love one another
- Emmanuel in the movie sacrifices his name, achievements, money & dreams just because he wanted to fulfill other’s dreams and make them happy. He is an example of at most humility. In our offices, our homes – Does humility comes into action? Are we ready to sacrifice our dreams so that dreams of others may get fulfilled? Can we sacrifice our promotions, so that someone else may get promoted? Are we able to sacrifice our time so that someone in need can take a hold of our time
- Emmanuel – Is not loved by all, But he is loved by many.
- Emmanuel is also living in today’s society. He too enjoys his life. But even in the midst of his enjoyments, he makes sure that he is always in search of people who are in pain and sorrows. Have we missed out the “needy people” in the midst of our enjoyments?
The story of Emmanuel continues………..A call for each one of us to be “EMMANUELS”
